Alright so I’m going take a day and... Yeah, things get crazy when you focus on the crazy, and sometimes, for your own sanity, you just have to relax for a moment. So, I’m going to do that. We have to enjoy the simple things in life, because often times, they’re gone before we realize the value of them.
Now, in case anyone is wondering, who am I? Well, I’m 20 years old, and I like to write, hang with my bros, read, workout. I started writing fiction in high school and really liked it, so I rolled with it, kept at it, and here I am.
After winning a national writing competition, and placing 6th in the top 25 winners in an international writing competition based in the U.K, it kind of set it in my heart to want to write in some way, to whatever degree, for the rest of my life.
I like words (as crazy as that may sound to some, and I don’t blame you, they drive me crazy sometimes too!) and one of my greatest goals in a day is to craft a beautifully put together sentence, paragraph, blog post, chapter or even a book. I like it! I can’t really describe it any other way.
This past year was pretty great because I was able to self-publish two books through my dad’s ministry, Battle Ready, (and yes, Doug Barry is my dad, if you were wondering about that. It’s pretty awesome!) which are titled “His Passion” an account of the passion of Jesus Christ, which I wrote as seen through the apostle John’s eyes. I also wrote and self-published my first novel, “Varrick” the first book in an apocalyptic trilogy.
Yeah that’s pretty much me in a nutshell. I thought you might appreciate a little background on who’s writing these blog posts.
It’s important to have moments of respite. Resting in the midst of craziness is sometimes the only thing which keeps us from going crazy ourselves. While we can’t forget or ignore the problems in our world, sometimes you just have to take a breather!
There is so much good out there, and we need to recognize it! God has blessed us so much! When you need to remember how amazing our God is, just take a look at nature and all His creation. It’s stunning, and only one of the many reasons why we should never lose hope in our awesome God!
God bless you. Zac.
God Always Wins
Oct 3 2016
God wins in the end. He has already won. But that’s not the point we should be focusing on. The point we should be focusing on is how many souls may be lost before the end comes and God’s victory is realized?
Because even though God has won we still need to choose Him.
We can’t be indifferent, which seems to be a huge problem in our world today.
Take the National Anthem protests. Here’s the real
problem. When people are indifferent they don’t care, they don’t see a
problem with something which, years ago, would have been intolerable.
This is the same thing which happened to the Supreme Court's ruling on
marriage. People who were indifferent didn’t care! They didn’t see
a problem with it, just like now with all the protests to our National Anthem!
Yes we all realize there are problems, and evils do exist in our
world and need to be stopped, but this new way of protesting is
outrageous. The National Anthem represents what is GOOD in the United States, and HONORS those who gave their lives for the freedom we have today.
I’m so fed up with the entitled attitude of self-expression, be it
blatantly slamming the good aspects of our country and calling it freedom of speech, or sitting idle as you watch it crash and burn, yet don’t get your hands dirty because you’re protecting your all perfect conscience.
Yes I’m referring to those people who claim they can’t vote this
election. This baffles me. Yes I agree neither candidate is perfect, but we can use logic here. One candidate stands on the platform of killing babies in the womb, the other has taken the platform of life for the unborn.
This is one fact which is clearly set before us on who we
must not vote for, otherwise thousands more babies WILL die. There are other reasons, like marriage, family, and social justice issues. The differences between the Republican platform and the Democrat platform are so BLATANT. I encourage you to look them up and see for yourself. I’m done dabbling in politics for now.
All I’m telling you are facts. It’s not my own opinion, but the hard truth. And not many people are talking about it and that’s a problem. Why?
Let me get back to the point. Indifference.
It’s something we can change, because we all have a choice. We can either choose to care, or not. I’m not going to tell you what to do, that’s not my job. I’m laying out facts, and food for thought.
There is incredible hope in the fact that what is needed to turn
things around begins with a simple decision in the heart. Then we need to let that one, small decision transform us from the inside out. It’s
incredible to think what we can accomplish when we meld our will with God’s, giving Him the reigns to our lives, allowing Him to use us in ways that are unfathomable.
But it is our choice. It always has been. The ball is
in our court, what are we going to do with it?
God bless you. Zac.
We Can't Let it Change Us
Oct 28 2016
People are angry, and I understand why. One of the reasons for this is that some people are losing hope over what they see in our world. One example is that we see people acting contrary to what they say they believe in. Some are those of church authority, or in other positions of power, some are our peers. We can look at what’s going on right now especially with our political world.
People lose faith sometimes because they’ve grounded it in the wrong place. They have grounded it in men, rather than God.
The Catholics who vote for a candidate who supports Planned Parenthood are misguided and are in no means truly living their Catholic faith. They are the wrong representation of Catholicism, and should not be seen as those living in accordance with Catholic Church teaching. As a 20 yr. old Catholic man I can say how angry and frustrated I am at those who claim to be Catholic yet vote contrary to the faith.
But the truth of our Catholic Faith isn't in men, who when they turn from God are full of error, it is rooted in Christ Jesus and His church.
I understand the feeling of doubt, frustration and anger over why God would be allowing these things to happen. But we have to remember that we don't know the mind of God. He gave us the freewill to choose our own behavior, and He honors our free will by letting us either choose to follow Him, or reject Him.
I'm angry and confused! But we have to put our faith and our roots, in God, not man. If our God were to suddenly zap everyone with lightning the moment they turned from Him, then what kind of God is that? He allows us to choose, but then, also allows us choose His love and mercy as we come back to Him.
These "catholic" politicians in our world today shouldn't be swaying us from God, but binding us closer to Him. We need to pray for them to realize what they’re doing. If we let them, they who have let Satan influence a change in them, change us, then we're only allowing Satan to win even more than he already has. Don’t give the enemy any more ground!
God Bless you. Zac.
Things are Bad
Oct 26 2016
I want to start off with a story. I have a friend who is currently at a christian college, living on campus in a small, Midwest university. The stories my friend tells me of the struggles are quite frightening. My friend tells me of all the immorality, the despondency, the selfishness, the promiscuous lifestyles, the partying.
And the fact that none of these college students care how their immoral behaviors are impacting everyone else around them.
Instead of seeing how my friend is behaving, daily rosary, mass on Sundays and holy days, devout prayer life, and use of sacramentals, instead of following THIS example, they actually shun and try to tear down my friend for living differently than they do.
This is a small, christian Midwest campus! And the problems are this bad. You would think here, of all places, things would be better off. Well that’s not the case. This is how far we’ve come, in the wrong direction.
Things are not okay, contrary to some popular opinion, and they are continuing to get increasingly worse, and won’t get better unless we acknowledge the problems and turn them around. Which we can do if we realize there are problems. It seems hardly anyone embraces the reality that there are problems, or that we would need to make an effort to change the course we’re headed.
If we only, ONLY, took the issue of abortion, the murder of children, that alone would be reason enough to wake up and change things. But we have even more than that, from the violence, corruption, selfishness, immorality, the breakdown of marriage and the family. It’s rampant.
What more do we need to see unfold in our world before we wake up and go, with conviction, to God? Because the hope is there! And so is the grace! We only have to reach up and take it. God is waiting for us, using our free will, to choose Him, and His love and mercy will be right there for us. But we must choose it. God bless you. Zac.
Zachariah Barry is a 20 year old Catholic man. He like many others is trying to navigate through this post-christian society. He is the author of “His Passion” and “Varrick.”
