This is my least favorite phrase ever. You do you.
What kind of saying is that? A lazy way to avoid any responsibility for others, a pathetic excuse for people to do anything they want, have any views they want, and just another way of lowering the bar in our culture.
It’s a cop-out.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about the light banter, small talk of “do what you want” I’m talking about how, slowly, our culture is using this sort of, loose language to make excuses for bad behavior.
It’s part of the whole, “your truth is different than my truth” argument. Like if you were to only do what pleases you, you’re doing right by it, and thus everything is fine. Basically, this saying is “you do what pleases you and I’ll condone it because it’s what you want.”
That is not a very good outlook on how a society should run, yet this is the way it’s going.
Some out there might think I’m making a big deal out of nothing, or that I’m taking a small, harmless phrase and making things up. But that’s not my point. My point is, the enemy has hijacked our terminoligy, twisted our way of thinking, so much so that now we’re openly confirming people's flawed choices, sinful lifestyles, and bad behaviors by the simple phrase of, “You do You.”
I have had personal experience with this phrase within my peers, where someone hinted I could bring a significant other, saying the word girlfriend, then quickly adding “Or boyfriend, you do you.”
And this is what I’m talking about.
This phrase in itself isn’t the problem, it’s what the enemies of God have done to it to twist it, where now people see it as normal to be excused for bad decisions. They’re just taking the advice and being themselves. Or what they think they are.
We must always be vigilant and wary of the wiles of Satan. He’s been observing us for thousands and thousands of years and knows our human weakness and failing, and how to exploit them. And we would have no hope in overcoming his attacks if it weren’t for God.
So run to God! He’s always there waiting, the all loving Father waiting for His children to come to Him!
God bless you all, signing off, Zac.
